Tasks
In accordance with the administrative agreement concluded between the Federal Government and the federal states, the German Judges’ Academy offers training courses at its two venues in Trier and Wustrau to judges from all branches of the judiciary and public prosecutors in their respective specialist fields, and imparts knowledge and experience regarding political, social and other academic developments.
Responsibility for programme development lies with the Programme Conference, in which the federal and state judicial administrations are each represented by one vote. The Academy’s management and the professional associations act in an advisory capacity.
The Programme Conference has decided on the composition of the content of the annual programme as follows:
| Juristische Fachtagungen | 55% | |
| davon | ||
| Zivilrecht | 4/10 | |
| Strafrecht | 4/10 | |
| Fachgerichtsbarkeiten | 2/10 | |
| Fachübergreifende | ||
| (interdisziplinäre) Tagungen | 25% | |
| Tagungen zur Vermittlung | ||
| sozialer Kompetenz | ||
| (verhaltensorientierte Tagungen) | 20% |
The Programme Conference sets out the broad outlines of the German Judges’ Academy’s training programme one calendar year in advance. In particular, it determines the number, duration and topics of the conferences and designates the judicial administrations responsible for implementing the programme. The topics for the five ‘Deutsche Richterakademie Aktuell’ conferences are decided only about six months in advance to ensure they are up to date, and are then advertised separately.
The deliberations of the Programme Conference are also based on the respective annual report of the Director of the German Judges’ Academy, in which the results obtained from the evaluation conducted as part of the participant survey are presented and assessed.
