Psychology of statement evaluation

theme No.: 29c
responsible federal state: Lower Saxony
date: 25.09.2023 - 29.09.2023

The conference is aimed at judges from all jurisdictions as well as public prosecutors.
All lawyers working in court regularly have to deal with the question of whether they can trust the information provided by a party or the testimony of a witness. Knowledge of the principles of statement psychology and general psychological phenomena of forming judgments is necessary in order to avoid evaluating statements based on externals and ultimately “gut feeling”.
The decisive factors for the assessment of a statement lie both in the person making the statement and in the person who is interrogating.
On the one hand, the conference presents the instruments for the credibility analysis of statements and the problem of perception and memory errors of the person making the statement. On the other hand, it deals with the inner processes taking place unconsciously in the interrogator, which can affect the interrogation and the interrogation result. In addition to imparting theoretical basics, the program also includes the implementation of what has been learned using practical exercises.
