Right-wing extremism in Germany – Continuities and current trends

theme No.: 11b
responsible federal state: Lower Saxony
date: 19.03.2023 - 24.03.2023

The conference is aimed at judges from all jurisdictions as well as public prosecutors.
At the latest, the murders of the NSU (National Socialist Underground) have brought right-wing extremism into the focus of general interest. In particular, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the police have to put up with the question of whether the phenomenon hasn't been underestimated for too long. It is not uncommon for this question to be asked of the judiciary.
Acts of violence such as the murder of politician Walter Lübcke (2019) and the deadly attacks in Halle (2019) and Hanau (2020) illustrate the militancy and dangerous dynamics of the right-wing extremist scene in recent times.
As part of the conference, the difficult task of coming to terms with Nazi injustice in the Federal Republic will be critically reflected upon.
Current manifestations of right-wing extremism are also dealt with. This applies, for example, to right-wing extremism, which is also intellectually demanding, as well as to ruthless forms of propaganda (music, etc.). Last but not least, the relevance of the Internet for radicalization processes of right-wing extremists is examined. Another focus is on discussing difficulties and problems in the prosecution of right-wing extremism based on reports from practice.

This conference is also advertised as part of the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN). It is also particularly suitable for foreign participants.
