Psychiatry and Psychology in Criminal Procedure

The conference is aimed at judges at criminal courts and public prosecutors.
It conveys basic principles of forensic psychiatry and psychology intending to provide an overview of psychiatric diseases and their criminological relevance for the participants, to facilitate the understanding of expertises and to offer practical information on selection and instruction of experts. Planned topics are among others:
  • Substantive and procedural questions concerning the assessment of culpability
  • Psychiatric diseases: criminological relevance and forensic assessment
  • The psychiatric opinion: tasks and methodical procedure
  • Quality characteristics and sources of error in psychiatric opinions
  • Practical questions concerning the cooperation between the court and the psychiatric expert
  • Special problems concerning the assessment of culpability: personality disorders and crimes of passion
  • The forensic-psychiatric assessment of sexual offences
  • Psychological test procedures within the forensic assessment
  • The evaluation of the danger prognosis
  • Legal consequences: Decisions concerning measures for the prevention of crime and reformation of offenders.
