Developments and trends in criminal law

The conference is aimed at criminal judges and public prosecutors.
The main part of the conference is dedicated to recent judgements of the German Federal Court of Justice in areas that are particularly relevant in practice and exposed to permanent change, e.g.:
  • in substantive law: narcotics law, traffic law, sexual criminal law, culpability, sentencing,
  • in procedural law: right to apply for evidence, mutual understanding, requirements for the drafting of criminal judgments.
Depending on the current situation, the conference also deals with overarching developments in national and European legislation, legal policy and related criminal law disciplines such as criminalistics and forensic psychiatry. These may include the following topics:
  • Constitutional effects on criminal law
  • Major legal changes in the Criminal Code or the Code of Criminal Procedure
  • Criminal law responses to new forms of criminal behaviour
  • Modern means of communication and their impact on fighting crime
  • Law enforcement in the field of political extremism, terrorism and violence against women.
