Psychological and sociological Foundations of Family Law

theme No.: 35e
responsible federal state: Brandenburg
date: 05.11.2023 - 10.11.2023

This conference is aimed at judges in family courts. It is suitable for experienced colleagues as well as colleagues without experience in family law.
According to new Sec. 23b (3) GVG family court judges are required to show documented basic knowledge of psychology, particularly of developmental psychology of children, and of skills in communication with children. This conference serves the need of professional training that this regulation entails.
Experienced speakers with backgrounds in the judiciary, in pedagogy and in psychology will teach the participants the basics of psychology and pedagogy that are necessary to practice as a judge in family court, and that will soon be required by law. Special attention will be given to the conducting of court hearings with children, child endangerment and psychological diagnostics. All topics will be covered comprehensively, in a practice-oriented way and, where suitable, in role-plays. Furthermore, the responsibilities of the parties of family court proceedings as well as the understanding of their roles will be discussed, particularly of the family court, the youth welfare office, the court appointed child’s advocate and the expert.
In addition to the transfer of knowledge there will of course be enough opportunity for professional exchange and discussion.
Furthermore, an excursion, e.g. to a children protection facility, is part of the conference.
